Which trail to buy next
The honest answer is "the cheapest one you do not own yet", because each step adds the same 0.5× while the price jumps about 30–50×. Concretely:
- Own nothing: buy Yarn Trail at $3K. It is the first paid upgrade and doubles your treadmill.
- Sitting on Yarn: Whisker at $100K is 33× the cash for +0.5×. Buy it when $100K is a few minutes of income, not when it is your whole balance.
- Past Whisker: Catnip at $3M is another 30×, and Moonbeam at $150M is another 50×. By this point the trail is competing with cat wheel upgrades for the same cash.
The five trails we could read
| Trail | Rarity | Treadmill multiplier | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paw Print Trail | Common | x1.5 | shown as Equipped, price not readable |
| Yarn Trail | Rare | x2 | $3K |
| Whisker Trail | Epic | x2.5 | $100K |
| Catnip Trail | Legendary | x3 | $3M |
| Moonbeam Trail | Mythic | x3.5 | $150M |
Paw Print came pre-equipped in the session we captured, so its purchase price never appeared on screen. Treat the table as five rows of what the shop showed, not as the game's complete catalogue: a sixth card was clipped by the panel edge and could not be read.
Why a trail only pays off on the cat wheel
Unlocking Whisker produces the message Whisker trail unlocked: x2.5 treadmill speed! — the multiplier is named against the treadmill, not against your character. That matches the loop the game describes on its own page: you run on the cat wheel to gain Speed.
So the order of operations is: get on the wheel, then let the trail multiply the speed you are already generating. A trail bought before you can hold the wheel for a decent stretch does nothing for you.
Trails against cat wheel upgrades
Both systems ask for cash, and both climb steeply. The three cat wheel upgrade prices we could read are $10K, $300M and $20B — the second step is 30,000 times the first.
That gap is the practical reason to buy trails first at the low end. A $10K wheel upgrade and a $3K Yarn Trail sit in the same spending band; after that the wheel jumps past every trail except Moonbeam. Full mechanics are on the speed and cat wheel guide.
What we could not read
- Paw Print's price, because it was already equipped.
- The sixth trail card, clipped at the panel edge.
- What each trail's multiplier applies to numerically — the wheel shows
+90,+210,+360,+490and+600SPEED PER STEP at different points, and we could not attribute each number to a specific wheel or trail combination.
Next: the money per second guide shows how to afford the $3M step without grinding for a week.
